Siam Piwat Group wins 4 Friendly Design Awards 2023, underscoring its commitment to universal design across its world-class destinations

Siam Piwat – a leading real estate and retail developer, the owner and operator of world-class projects like Siam Paragon, Siam Center, and Siam Discovery, and a joint venture partner of ICONSIAM and Siam Premium Outlets Bangkok – has received four prestigious awards at the Friendly Design Awards 2023, highlighting the group’s leadership in global destination development towards sustainability and promotion of diversity, equality, and inclusivity through universal design. Ms. Chadatip Chutrakul, Chief Executive Officer of Siam Piwat Group, has been named the Universal Design Role Model of the Year 2023 by the Friendly Design for All Foundation in recognition of her contribution to the advancement of universal design in Thailand and continued effort to promote tourism for all. Siam Piwat Group’s shopping centers were also honored, with Siam Paragon and ICONSIAM given the Friendly Design Awards 2023 in the Tourist Destination for All category and Siam Premium Outlets Bangkok receiving a Friendly Design Venue award at the Thailand Friendly Design Expo 2023, the seventh edition of the exhibition for universal design, health innovations, and tourism for all.

The Friendly Design for All Foundation has presented the prestigious Universal Design Role Model of the Year 2023 to Ms. Chadatip Chutrakul in recognition of her role as a leader who has always placed great emphasis on the concept of universal design and consistently applied it to the development of various projects, such as the ONESIAM, Pathumwan Intersection pedestrian overpass, ICONSIAM, and Siam Premium Outlets Bangkok. Over years, Siam Piwat has received various awards as an exemplary organization for advancing architectural initiatives, promoting tourism for all, and establishing a robust foundation for design in Thailand, thus fostering and promoting equality in society.

Siam Piwat’s shopping centers honored at the Friendly Design Awards 2023 were Siam Paragon and ICONSIAM, honorees in the Tourist Destination for All category, and Siam Premium Outlets Bangkok, recipient of a Friendly Design Venue award. All these destinations adhere to the principles of universal design, as reflected in their choice of innovations, materials, and equipment, which take into account the lifestyle of everyone. In addition, all the facilities, equipment, and spaces within the buildings have been designed to international universal design standards to ensure full accessibility. For instance, entrances, walkways between buildings, and parking facilities all have sufficiently wide ramps for all types of wheelchairs. Bathrooms for people with disabilities and the elderly have been made available on every floor, along with changing rooms for infants and breastfeeding rooms equipped with facilities such as handrails and emergency alarms. Furthermore, large elevators that can accommodate all types of wheelchairs are available, with buttons specially designed to make it easy for wheelchair users to call up an elevator and select floors. All of these facilities and features are clearly marked with easily recognizable symbols. Efforts to maximize accessibility are also evident at ICONSIAM, a transportation hub that boasts the most comprehensive rail-road-water connectivity.

Since 2016, Siam Piwat Group and its affiliated shopping centers have received more than 11 universal design-related awards from the Friendly Design for All Foundation.
