Siam Piwat Donated 200,000 Trees to Bangkok, Solidifying Its Commitment to a Greener Future By Pledging to Plant More Each Year.
- Siam Piwat donated 200,000 trees to Bangkok, exceeding expectations of the initial target of 100,000 trees by more than double, to help absorb 4,800 tons of carbon dioxide equivalent per year.
- Reaffirming Siam Piwat’s dedication to the environment by partnering with its alliances to promote a green economy, they have planted trees and mangroves nationwide, increasing the number of trees planted each year to help absorb carbon dioxide.
Siam Piwat Group, a leading property and retail developer - the owner and operator of global destinations, including Siam Paragon, Siam Center, Siam Discovery, and a joint venture partner of ICONSIAM, ICS, and Siam Premium Outlets Bangkok, has taken another step forward in its environmental commitment by joining forces with its ecosystem partners to connect businesses with people, society, and the environment. The company is committed to creating a positive impact by restoring and passing on a livable world through “the Citizen of Earth by Siam Piwat campaign.”
As part of this campaign, Siam Piwat donated 200,000 trees to the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration's "One Million Trees Planting Project." The trees were donated as a result of the "Siam Piwat Run Forest Run" activity held in late 2023, where 1 kilometer of running was converted into 1 tree. This contribution is equivalent to absorbing approximately 4,800 tons of carbon dioxide annually. Mr. Chadchart Sittipunt, the Governor of Bangkok, accepted the donation and joined the executives of Siam Piwat Group and partners in planting trees at Lumphini Park, Pathumwan District.
Ms. Naratipe Ruttapradid, Chief Operating Officer, Operation, Siam Piwat Co., Ltd. stated, “Siam Piwat actively drove the creation of a prototype city that aims to be the center of environmental restoration in the heart of the city. We set a mission to participate in the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration's One Million Trees Planting Project, intending to donate 100,000 trees to the project to help increase green space, absorb carbon dioxide, and increase oxygen in Bangkok. The Siam Piwat Run Forest Run event held last year received overwhelming attention and exceeded expectations in terms of the number of participants who ran to accumulate mileage to be converted into trees.
Siam Piwat has integrated environmental management into its business operations to achieve Net Zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. The company prioritizes environmental care in all its operations, promoting resource efficiency and maximizing reuse. It implements waste management based on the "Choose, Use, Separate, Create" concept and has expanded its Recycle Collection Center service points under the Siam Piwat 360° Waste Journey to Zero Waste project.
To achieve the goal of net zero greenhouse gas emissions, Siam Piwat set a goal to increase green space. After successfully participating in Bangkok's One Million Trees Planting Project, the company will continue to increase green space in Thailand by planting trees continuously and increasing the number of trees planted each year. This includes planting trees in Bangkok and its surrounding areas, as well as planting mangroves, which can absorb up to 10 times more carbon dioxide than regular forests.
Every tree planted will be monitored and cared for to ensure that it grows and contributes to solving environmental problems in a real and sustainable way. Tree planting is a key activity for creating high-quality carbon credits that are important to all sectors of the world and are essential for moving towards a green economy, which will lead to the restoration of the world to a livable place.” Ms. Naratipe Ruttapradi concluded.
As part of its Citizen of Earth campaign by Siam Piwat, the company partnered with Virgin Active, Canon, Puma, and Saucony to organize the Siam Piwat Run Forest Run in October-November 2023. Participants were invited to run on a treadmill at Siam Center or virtually. For every kilometer run, Siam Piwat planted one tree. The event saw over 300,000 kilometers run, resulting in the donation of 200,000 trees to Bangkok.
Originally, the company had set the goal of increasing green space and reducing carbon emissions by targeting to donate 100,000 trees to Bangkok Metropolitan Administration's One Million Trees Planting Project. The donation of 200,000 trees is more than double the original goal! With this number of trees, they will help absorb around 4,800 tons of carbon dioxide every year.
