Siam Piwat has been an organization that has always been aware of and paying attention to the environment. Since 2006, Siam Piwat has applied the Reduce Reuse Recycle principle to create an environmental management system in its projects. Especially in regards to waste management, at present, we have upgraded our 360-degree waste management plan for the goal of "zero waste", campaigning for customers and people and employees to focus on environmental preservation. Understand and learn about waste separation. Build a comprehensive waste sorting system for further recycling Or the process of processing into raw materials to bring upcycling into new products. There are many interesting projects that can be as new models for other organizations and consumes to study as a guideline and participate in our environmental projects as following;
1) Recycle Collection Center (RCC):
The boxes installed as the Recycle Collection Center are also made from engineered wood that are upcycled from non-recyclable multilayer packaging / refill bags, designed by Duck Unit Co., Ltd. and manufactured by Best Polymer International Co., Ltd. Before dropped off at the Drive-Thru, all the waste must be cleaned and classified by its raw material type under the following 8 different categories: 1) Paper 2) Glass 3) Steel and Aluminum 4) Mixed Hard 5) Stretchy Plastic 6) Multilayer Plastic 7) PET Plastic Bottles 8) Cartons. The collected waste would then go through the recycling process and be converted into recycled raw materials for the transformation into multiple value-added products which will be redirected to consumers for sale. Some products will be exhibited and sold in eco-friendly zone in “Ecotopia” store at Siam Discovery. The project is a collaboration with Unilever Thailand Group, Kao Industrial (Thailand) Co., Ltd. and Tetra Pak (Thailand) Co., Ltd. In addition, every first Saturday of the month, there is an area open for non-recyclable plastic waste will be sent to Wong Panich Suvarnabhumi converted into Refuse-derived fuel (RDF), a renewable energy source to produce electricity.
2) Circular Living X’mas Tree:
Every year, Siam Discovery will create a Christmas tree to save the world Which emphasizes the design concept that focuses on the principles of the circular or the use of renewable resources for maximum benefit. to reduce the amount of waste generated and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. It has been created annually for the 12th year in a row with the aim of delivering happiness at the end of the year that not only presents spectacular beauty, but also helps to stimulate and raise awareness for Thai people to become more concerned about the environment. Invite everyone to be a part of the way of life that preserves the environment, creating environmental friendliness and sustainability.
3) CE MODEL PATHUMWAN:
Siam Piwat collaborates with Plastics Institute and Chulalongkorn University, to research and develop a business model with the aim of driving Siam Piwat to become a model retail business with comprehensive waste management under the concept of Circular Economy. The project defines Siam Piwat as an important target area for studying consumer information, lifestyles, consumption behavior, and behavior regarding sorting and disposing of waste. The research results will be analyzed and utilized to create a concept for developing a business model on plastic waste management in urban society.
